The most common makeup mistakes and how to avoid them

There is a cosmetics regimen that everyone of us follows religiously and that we believe we will never abandon. But what if your daily routine is truly littered with beauty gaffes and missteps?

We’re here to assist you, so don’t be afraid! We took some time to compile a list of the most common cosmetics blunders we’ve seen over the years, as well as an explanation of why they could be interfering with your daily routine. Here are some common errors to prevent with makeup.

Applying First, Then Moisturizing

The biggest enemy of makeup is dry skin. When makeup is applied straight to dry skin, it may induce flakiness, which makes it harder to integrate the substance into the skin’s surface. Make certain that your face has been properly washed and moisturized before applying any makeup. Choosing a moisturizer that can also function as a primer is the best option. Make sure to exfoliate once a week if you want to get rid of your dry skin for good.

Using too much concealer or not setting it

We like concealer just as much as the next gal, but we caution you against overusing it. Contrary to popular belief, you should not apply concealer over your whole face. Instead, apply a little coating to the areas that need correction, like as blemishes and dark spots, and build it up as required to avoid highlighting fine lines and wrinkles. For a more natural and bright appearance, use concealers that are lightweight while still providing enough coverage.

Using Blush in the Wrong Way

In order to give our faces a young, rosy glow, blush is applied on top of them. If you apply blush incorrectly—for example, by applying it too low or too high—you run the danger of looking older. Apply color to the apples of your cheeks with a smile, and then blend the color back along your cheekbones to complete the look. This approach produces a light that is neither too garish nor cartoonish. Check out this Allure article featuring our Founder, Sarah, for tips on how to apply blush to different face types.

The wrong shade of foundation was used

Everyone has made this common cosmetics blunder at some point in their lives. It will be obvious that you are wearing makeup if you choose the incorrect shade of foundation for your skin tone since your face will not match the rest of your complexion. To get the most accurate results when picking a foundation, try the product on your face rather than your arm. There is no harm in purchasing two colors that are similar to your skin tone, and then either choosing the shade that appears best in natural daylight or keeping both to mix and match as your skin tone changes with the seasons.

Making the brows too dark while filling them in

Finally, we must discuss the ‘brows’ of the subject. Filling in the brows too thickly is likely the most common and costly cosmetic mistake. Filling in your brows with a color that matches your hair color or even one shade darker than your hair color, is the best option for blondes. If you have darker hair, we recommend that you avoid going too dark on your brows to prevent having brows that are too sharp. For the most realistic finish, we suggest that you apply your brow product in feathery upward strokes, concentrating on sparse or uneven regions rather than consistently filling in the whole brow, or uniformly filling in the entire brow. In order to smooth out the wrinkles and create a more equal appearance, softly run a brow brush across your eyebrows at the end of the process. Voila!

Using an excessive amount of concealer

Many of us make the mistake of using too much concealer in our quest to achieve the ideal matte finish. Selecting the incorrect hue and applying it in an excessively heavy layer could result in accentuating your wrinkles and making your face seem older. Top makeup artists advise staying away from heavy foundations in order to prevent this problem. Instead, choose for fluid moisturizers that include luminous particles, which will leave your skin looking healthy and natural while without overburdening it.

Overusing mascara on the lower lashes is not recommended

If you add a little mascara to your bottom lashes and highlight the corners of your eyes, you may give your look an additional burst of personality. Too much mascara, on the other hand, will draw attention away from your eyes and focus it on the creases around your eyes instead of your eyes. However little those wrinkles may be, heavy mascara will make them stick out much more!

Conclusion

There’s no denying that lipstick can make a significant difference to your appearance! This season, don’t be afraid to experiment with deep, vibrant hues to create a striking look. But don’t forget that if your lips are naturally small, you should avoid using dark-toned lipsticks to prevent drawing attention to them. Dark lipsticks have a tendency to make your lips seem more smaller. If you want to make your lips look larger, lipstick may also assist; all you have to do is overdraw your natural lip line with the lipstick!
